Webmaster News – Google is moving closer to allowing mobile payment for Android smartphones. According to reports, the search giant is partnering with MasterCard and Citigroup to provide users with an embedded app that will allow them to simply wave their phones in front of Verifone readers to make purchases.

In its early stages, the “electronic wallet’ service would allow Citigroup debit and credit card holders to use their Android phones to make purchases. Google is expected to launch the service later this year in hopes of bolstering its advertising business by providing retailers with targeted data about their customers. Google would take a portion of the transaction fees.

March 18, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

Adult NewsLONDON — U.K. web surfers prefer social networking over sex sites. According to statistics from web analytics firm Experian Hitwise, sites like Facebook surpass entertainment outlets that include porn websites in British Internet usage charts. The Experian study — Carpe diem – Seizing the Moment in Social Media — revealed that social networking sites received more than 2.4 billion hits from U.K. users accounting for 12.46 percent, or almost one eighth of all U.K. web visits.

Brits also spend more time on each visit to a social network logging in an average of 22 minutes in January with Facebook attracting 56 percent of the traffic. “While social networks of course compete amongst themselves for users, many of those users have a presence on multiple networks,” said Robin Goad, Experian Hitwise’s research director. White House Seeks to Make Illegal Streaming a Federal Offense

March 17, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

Webmaster NewsWASHINGTON — The White House wants to change U.S. copyright law by making illegal streaming of audio or video a federal felony and allowing FBI agents to wiretap suspected infringers. In a 20-page proposal, the Obama administration said it wants Congress to fix “deficiencies that could hinder enforcement” of intellectual property laws.

The White House said it’s concerned that “illegal streaming of content” may not be covered by criminal law and said, “questions have arisen about whether streaming constitutes the distribution of copyrighted works.” Therefore, it wants a new law to “clarify that infringement by streaming, or by means of other similar new technology, is a felony in appropriate circumstances.”

The administration also said it wants to expand on wiretaps to include copyright and trademark infringement saying the move “would assist U.S. law enforcement agencies to effectively investigate those offenses.”

Under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, it’s generally illegal to distribute hardware or software that can circumvent copy protection technology. The administration is proposing that if officials seize such devices, they would be permitted to inform rights holders, provide samples of such devices and assist them in bringing civil actions.

Opponents of the proposal say it gives the government too much power.
