Adult Web Hosting – LOS ANGELES — In response to the so-called “War on Pornography” being waged by special interest groups demanding Internet censorship and Congressional interference with Constitutionally-protected speech, the Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection (ASACP) has sent a letter to the U.S. Congress and the U.S. and state Attorneys General offering a counterpoint to the organized anti-porn phone-in and letter-writing campaign.

According to ASACP CEO Joan Irvine, proactive steps needed to be taken to provide a balanced view of the complex issues and passionate debates surrounding the legitimate adult entertainment industry; the nebulous notion of “obscenity;” and the need to keep children out of and away from adult-oriented materials.

“I read in the Amarillo Globe-News that Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, and Reps. Mike McIntyre, D-N.C., and Randy Forbes, R-Va., have drafted a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder requesting that he begin vigorously prosecuting illegal adult pornography producers and distributors under existing obscenity laws,” Irvine stated. “In my email to Congressional legislators and Attorneys General, I informed them that ‘there is no need for this action, since the legal adult entertainment industry is not involved in obscenity.’”

“ASACP can prove that the adult entertainment industry has taken steps to protect children from being in and viewing age-restricted content,” Irvine added. “The adult industry is just that — ‘by and for adults.’”

Since 1996 ASACP has operated a child pornography (CP) reporting hotline. An analysis of data compiled from more than 400,000 reports of suspected child pornography received by its hotline during a five-year period provides a deeper understanding of the scope and context of online CP (www.asacp.org/whitepaper/ASACP-whitepaper-9-10-2010.pdf).

ASACP launched the Restricted To Adults (RTA) label in 2006. The success of this initiative shows that proactive steps taken by the adult entertainment industry, coupled with technology and parental supervision of children’s Internet and mobile use, is a highly effective means of keeping kids from age-restricted material (www.rtalabel.org/rtapaper/rta-label-paper-final.pdf).

According to Tim Henning, ASACP’s VP of Technology and Forensic Research, more than 4.5 million adult websites currently use the RTA label, accounting for the bulk of professional sites. “There are more than 20 billion monthly hits to pages labeled with RTA,” Henning stated, adding that “the majority of sites have self-labeled with RTA including the 20 percent of adult sites that generate approximately 80 percent of all adult Internet traffic.” Henning noted that this rapid adoption of RTA stopped U.S. legislation for mandatory labeling, adding that “If parents have installed parental filtering software and/or setup the built-in features available in Microsoft and Apple operating systems, then RTA blocks children from viewing age-restricted content.”

For its dedication and efforts, ASACP and its RTA labeling initiative have received widespread support from business leaders and trade associations, governments and civic organizations.

At a recent Free Speech Coalition (FSC) press conference, Pink Visual President Allison Vivas commented on the industry’s support for ASACP, stating that “This is a group whose entire purpose is to help protect children and which has been recognized by the U.S. Congress.” On the Andre Controversa radio show, FSC Executive Director Diane Duke praised the adult industry’s filtering system, which prevents children from accessing its content. Duke reinforced the timely message by blogging at XBIZ, “The adult entertainment industry has always supported efforts to improve child Internet safety, especially greater parental involvement in filtering and supervising their children’s use of the Internet.” At the time of its launch, AVN’s Paul Fishbein foresaw the value of this unique tool for self-regulation, “not only to the parents themselves, but to the adult webmaster community, which can now have less fear of government action against them, and to the government itself, which can now rest a little easier knowing that the adult industry is taking important steps to prevent unwitting web surfers from inadvertently accessing material which they would not want to see and which might not be appropriate for them.”

These leaders referred to ASACP’s advanced online child protection technology and RTA. The website – RTALABEL.org – has recently been translated into French, German, and Spanish to address the needs of international consumers and website owners.

“Thanks to the support of the industry, ASACP has been able to create a free and easy-to-use label to designate content for adults-only,” Irvine stated. “The movie industry has MPAA, the video gaming industry has ESRB, and the adult industry has its own label with RTA.”

The ASACP RTA program was also honored by the American Society of Association Executives by being named the overall winner of the 2008 Associations Make a Better World award. ASACP has received Certificates of Recognition from the U.S. House of Representatives, the California State Senate, California State Assembly, and the cities of Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego, among others, all of which acknowledged ASACP’s efforts to help parents prevent their children from viewing age-restricted content.

The association educates the public through an ongoing series of Public Service Announcements, available on its YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/ASACPRTA). The most recent RTA PSA, first aired at the 2011 AVN Awards Show, featured star performers Riley Steele and Tori Black.

“By bridging the needs of parents, industry, regulators and other stakeholders,” Irvine concluded, “ASACP strives to make a profound societal difference that protects children and underscores the legitimacy of the adult entertainment industry — and which lessens the need for governmental involvement.”

About ASACP
Founded in 1996, ASACP is a non-profit organization dedicated to online child protection and is comprised of two separate corporate entities: Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection and the ASACP Foundation. The Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection (ASACP) is a 501(c)(4) social welfare organization. ASACP manages a membership program that provides resources to companies in order to help them protect children online. The ASACP Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. The ASACP Foundation battles child pornography through its CP Reporting Hotline and helps parents prevent children from viewing age-restricted material online via its Restricted To Adults (RTA) website label (www.rtalabel.org). ASACP has invested nearly 15 years in developing progressive programs to protect children, and its relationship in assisting the adult industry’s child protection efforts is unparalleled.
Adult Hosting – LOS ANGELES, CA — The Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection has announced the release of its latest public service announcement for the Restricted to Adults website label, featuring Riley Steele and Tori Black. The PSA features Black and Steele reminding companies to protect children and to protect their business by labeling with RTA.

It may now be viewed on the ASACP YouTube Channel. The ongoing RTA PSA series features performers and adult industry leaders discussing the need for proactive responsibility and the use of the RTA meta-label. Previous RTA PSAs have featured Ron Jeremy, Stormy Daniels, Sunny Leone, Chi Chi LaRue, Tera Patrick, Kayden Kross and Kristen Price, Allison Vivas, Catalina Cruz and Mickey Bojcsik.

“We are very grateful to Riley Steele and Tori Black for donating their time and energy to make this newest PSA for RTA possible,” ASACP CEO Joan Irvine said.

“The award-winning RTA label was made possible due to the generous support of the adult entertainment industry — and we appreciate this continued support, which allows us to expand the reach of RTA by raising awareness and encouraging labeling through these valuable public service announcements.”

RTA is the adult entertainment industry’s proactive initiative to protect children from viewing age-restricted content and was developed by ASACP out of a need for an easy-to-use and internationally recognized labeling system that designates content for adults only.

The RTA label is composed of a unique string of meta-data that is easily inserted into the coding of any website. Parental filtering software recognizes this label, preventing children from viewing adult content. The RTA label is free and universally available.

Webmaster News – Los Angeles, CA – The Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection (ASACP) is pleased to announce the ASACP Foundation a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Since 1996, ASACP has operated as a non-profit 501(c)(4) social welfare organization.

“As a 501(c)(4), donations to ASACP were not tax-deductible as a charitable donation; it is considered an advertising or ordinary business expense. Many people asked ASACP to establish a charity, so that in addition to their sponsorship and membership payments, they could donate money that would be a charitable tax-deductible gift. Therefore, we are pleased to announce that we have established the ASACP Foundation — 501(c)(3) nonprofit,” stated ASACP CEO Joan Irvine.

ASACP will now comprise of two separate corporate entities, the Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection and the ASACP Foundation, both being integral parts of the child protection effort. ASACP will continue to manage the membership program, help adult companies protect their businesses by protecting children, and make certain that these efforts are known by mainstream companies and by lawmakers in Washington DC and Europe. The ASACP Foundation will operate the ASACP child pornography reporting hotline and the Restricted To Adults – RTA Website Label.

“These two separate organizations will act together in order to do a broad range of work in protecting children online,” added Irvine. “Donations to the Foundation will help us to continue our online child protection efforts, while expanding our online safety educational efforts. Membership and sponsorship dues will continue to fund ASACP’s continual technology updates, its efforts to advocate on behalf of the industry, help ASACP expand internationally and provide the industry with the tools they need to protect their businesses. In addition with the Foundation, ASACP can now apply for grants.”

“ASACP is the only association in the world that coordinates the adult entertainment industry’s efforts to protect children online. It has spent over 13 years creating progressive programs to protect children. ASACP’s relationship in assisting the adult industry’s child protection efforts is unparalleled. Your donation to the ASACP Foundation not only helps the organization to create a safer internet for children, it helps to demonstrate our responsibility,” stated XBIZ President and ASACP Founder Alec Helmy.

Contributions to the ASACP Foundation are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law, you can donate at: http://www.asacp.org. Donations to the ASACP Foundation cannot be applied toward ASACP membership.

Webmaster News – Los Angeles, CA – On September 13, 2009, Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection (ASACP) CEO, Joan Irvine, graduated from the Chamber of Commerce Leadership Redondo Beach Program.

The Leadership Redondo Beach program is similar to the many other Chamber of Commerce Leadership programs around the world. It requires a two-year commitment. The first year focuses on educating participants about the community while meeting with numerous city and business community leaders. The second year requires working on a group project that will benefit the city and residents of Redondo Beach.

During the graduation ceremony at Wilderness Park, the graduates were honored with a congratulatory letter from Senator Diane Feinstein and Letters of Recognition from California Senator Jenny Oropeza and Assembly Member Ted Lieu. In honor of the graduation, on Oct 20, 2009 Irvine and her classmates were presented with a Letter of Recognition from Congresswoman Jane Harman and a Mayor’s Commendation from the City of Redondo Beach at its City Council meeting.

Since there is a water crisis in California and Redondo Beach has the additional problem of water run-off into the ocean, Leadership Redondo 2008 (LR08) chose to plant an educational Get Water Smart Garden in Wilderness Park (http://www.getwatersmart-rb.org) as their group project. This garden includes native and water tolerant plants. Many in the community helped to bring this vision to fruition including the Eagle Scouts who built seating from logs so people could rest while enjoying the Zen-like garden. In addition to the garden, LR08 held a fundraiser at the Sea Lab and provided education material to grade school children as well as information to businesses and residents.

Irvine stated, “I spend so much time working on national and international online child protection issues that I felt it was important to give back to my local community. Children spend too much time online, so it’s important to enhance such a great place like Wilderness Park where they can learn about nature and even camp in the woods. While we were working in the garden, it was great to see so many families taking advantage of this great community resource. It’s a good feeling to know that the Get Water Smart Garden will be around for decades to educate future generations of Redondo Beach children.”

Joan Irvine started with ASACP in 2002 as Executive Director and was promoted to CEO in 2008. She has worked in business technology and association management for over 25 years for companies including ADP, SDC and VIC. She advocates on behalf of online child protection in Washington and Sacramento, and participates in the Financial Coalition Against Child Pornography, Family Online Safety Institute, and the Congressional Internet Caucus Advisory Committee. She belongs to the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) and is a graduate of the Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce Leadership program. She has a BA in Human Development and Psychology from the University of Kansas.

Adult Hosting – Los Angeles, CA – Last week representatives from The Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection (ASACP) attended a special networking event at the Sureflix Corporate Offices in Toronto, Canada.

The event was arranged by Sureflix in order to introduce ASACP to key decision makers from Canadian companies in the industry. ASACP CEO Joan Irvine and Technology and Forensic Research Director Tim Henning attended the event. Sureflix not only organized the networking event, they provided opportunities for ASACP to meet with their staff and further educate them on ASACP’s activities. Sureflix also offered to include the ASACP public service announcements on their TV channel in Canada. In addition, Henning reviewed the Sureflix data in the ASACP database to make sure Sureflix was receiving the most benefits from their sponsorship.

ASACP also discussed with the Sureflix staff the options for ASACP’s plans to expand internationally. ASACP Advisory Council Member and Sureflix President, Eric Johnson offered advice on expansion plans in order to set correct expectations. Sureflix Vice President of Marketing Dennis Welsh and Account Manager of International Accounts Eduardo Mendonca, who speaks six languages, offered insight on the process of website translation and recommended a structured approach especially since ASACP has limited resources.

“ASACP has always worked on an international level to protect children; however, this event provided an opportunity for ASACP to launch our efforts to increase our presence internationally,” stated Irvine. “Thanks to Sureflix’s generosity, this was my first visit to Toronto. Like many other non-profits, ASACP is on a tight budget and I greatly appreciate Sureflix not only organizing this event, but also hosting my flight and hotel. Tradeshows are a good way to meet many people; however, I believe that small business gatherings with the decision makers are a better environment for ASACP to discuss its mission and goals. Sureflix limited the number of people who could attend to achieve this intimate setting.”

Henning added, “I was pleased to learn more about Sureflix operations, from Best Practices to behavior on boards and social media sites including having a motivational sheet with its six mission statement words and other adjectives which define the Sureflix corporate culture. Sureflix is an excellent example of a company that is committed to good business practices that includes supporting various non-profit and community groups.”

“As ASACP continues its international expansion, we ask other ASACP sponsors to do similar networking events for ASACP. This way ASACP can continue to do its best to protect children and the industry. Mainstream companies that work with ‘high risk’ industries are under pressure to dissolve such relationships. It helps if we can state to our opponents that these industries support a child protection association that has a recognized child pornography reporting hotline and the international award-winning Restricted to Adults – RTA Website Label. It’s a win/win for all,” Johnson stated. He added, “Sureflix encourages all our affiliates to label with the Restricted to Adults – RTA website label.”

Next week Irvine will travel to Europe to attend Webmasters Access Europe in Amsterdam where she will hold the third ASACP European Expansion Focus Group meeting. While in Europe she will meet with the European Commission in Luxemburg. Sureflix CBDO Michel Lozier also arranged other meetings for Irvine while she is in Europe.

Irvine stated, “It is only because of the support of its current sponsors and the industry that ASACP has progressed so far in protecting children and the industry. Now, we need additional support to expand our efforts on an international basis.”

Adult Web Hosting – Los Angeles, CA – The Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection (ASACP) has released a public service announcement (PSA) explaining how webmasters can better protect children online. The video is currently available for viewing on the ASACP YouTube Channel.

The “10 Tips To Help Protect Children Online” video shows how webmasters can prevent children from viewing age-restricted content and help them to protect their businesses. Created by ASACP Technology and Forensic Research Director Tim Henning, the PSA offers simple tips that all webmasters should use to help legally protect their businesses. While the advice in the video is no guarantee of legal protection, it can be very helpful.

“Running an adult entertainment company means being responsible for your content and for those accessing your site, because you are legally liable for your business. For years webmasters have been asking ASACP how they can best protect themselves and their companies, the video includes many of the tips I have developed,” stated Henning. “While the video is not a substitute for professional legal advice, the tips we have included are important safe guards for anyone operating an adult entertainment website.”

ASACP encourages all adult entertainment webmasters to view the PSA. For companies who are looking for additional technical advice on how to protect children and their businesses, Henning is available to conduct educational seminars and consult on your current child protection efforts. Henning has a degree in Computer Sciences and has worked with ASACP for 13 years. He managed the development of the ASACP child pornography reporting hotline and the Restricted to Adults – RTA website label. He is a member of the Financial Coalition Against Child Pornography and is on their Technical Challenges and Analytics workgroup. Tim is a recognized expert in online child protection and his technical opinion is often requested as an expert witness in child pornography trials. He heads up the ASACP Technology Taskforce which strives to develop the most cutting edge technological advancements in child protection.

Adult Webmaster News – Los Angeles, CA – The Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection (ASACP) has released a public service announcement (PSA) explaining how to report online child pornography (CP). The video is currently available for viewing on the ASACP YouTube Channel.

The sexual exploitation of children is a heinous crime and reporting CP could help save a child from being further victimized. However when reporting CP it could be just as important to know what not to do as it is to know what to do in order to not become criminally liable for the possession or distribution of child pornography. ASACP’s “How to Report Child Pornography” PSA explains exactly what to do, and what not to do, if you come across suspect child pornography online.

“ASACP’s CP hotline receives an average of 7,000 reports each month; however, coming across CP on the internet is a situation few are prepared for. What makes it so difficult is the shock of seeing the image of a very young child, even babies, being horribly sexually abused. It’s so upsetting that many people have a hard time properly reporting what they’ve seen,” stated Joan Irvine CEO of ASACP. “That is why ASACP created this new PSA on how to report CP.”

About ASACP
Founded in 1996, the Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection (ASACP) is a non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating child pornography from the Internet. ASACP operates an online reporting hotline that can help you to report child pornography. ASACP also works to help parents prevent children from viewing age-inappropriate material online, through initiatives like its RTA (“Restricted to Adults”) website label.
